The Music Video Is Alive Thanks to Those Treadmill Dudes

Posted by on Mar 9, 2010 in BLOG, camera work, Music Videos, OK Go | 3 Comments

Just a short but heartfelt post to thank the music video geniuses behind OK Go (you remember them, doncha? 4 dorks on a treadmill with a simple/killer dance routine that got over a million page views on YouTube?

Well if you weren’t quite impressed with the synchronicity of 4 machines, 4 men and one camera angle, you need to see the two versions of their latest track, This Too Shall Pass.

Not only are they both marvels of camera work, creativity, timing and art direction – in an age where every other video either features a gyrating woman in some kind of space suit, or a cutsie popstar living it large, OK Go once again restores my faith in the music video as exuberant art form.

Thecommich loves the song… but can’t decide which version she likes better. Can you weigh in?

Version 1: “Rube Goldberg Machine”

(you’ll notice it’s sponsored by State Farm… like a good neighbor AND a great financier!)

Version 2: Marching Band  (don’t ask me why but embedding was disabled upon request)
